5 Great Outer Banks Experiences – Things To Do and See in OBX and Hatteras, North Carolina

5 super cool obx adventures on the cool sandy shores of Cape Hatteras! Outer Banks is a laid-back beachy paradise, perfect for sunrise drives along ocean-hugging sandy roads and relaxing on wild untamed shores. Known as the shipwreck junction of the Atlantic for its rip currents and tides, the Outer Banks has over 300 shipwrecks estimated to date. So its a great option for shipwreck diving too!

I had a great time exploring Outer Banks and 5 obx adventures I’d recommend to anyone traveling to the islands are:

1) Seeing new islands form from the top of America’s tallest lighthouse – the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse

2) Bioluminescence kayaking – on those rich glow-in-the-dark organism-populated waters

3) Sand gliding on the dunes of the Jockey Ridge state park

4) Seeing wild horses (maybe on one of those touristy hummer tours?)

5) Visiting the spot where the Wright Brothers flew their first flight

If you’re in the obx vicinity, take advantage of its dark skies and star gaze as well!

  1. Lived in North Carolina almost all of my life but never been to the Outer Banks in my 25 years of being alive 😭 I definitely need to take a trip there soon.

  2. To everyone who is reading this, you’re beautiful and an amazing person. Please exercise frequently and eat more fruits/veggies. I wish you all good health, great success, and everlasting happiness!!!!!!!!

  3. Please learn how to correctly pronounce the place names "Hatteras" and "Carolina" etc. Until you do, you are spreading the ignorance. Ask the local residents first. They will be happy to tell you, with no problem.

  4. This was literally my favorite vacation ever. We stayed in Waves, right next to the water, it was beautiful every evening. We went during April, so it was cold and so windy, but sunny and no tourists, so peaceful.

  5. I was there many years ago with my first sheltie and he loved walking on the beach I even got out and close to the wild horses I could actually touch them want a wonderful experience I had there ❤️ I would definitely buy a beach house there if I won the lottery my collie and shletie would definitely love it there all the time ❤️♥️
