  1. We went to Amber Cove in March on Regal Princess. Took an excursion to see a little of the DR. Our tour guide kept up with all of us so that told me it really wasnโ€™t a safe place.
Most people there drive mopeds instead of cars since the gas is about $6 a gallon. Not a place I would go again and if I did I would stay on the ship or definitely in the port.

  2. We are going to Alaska aboard the Majestic Princess in September.
I saw a few videos where you briefly mentioned gold and white formal nights. I unsuccessfully searched for pictures/YouTube videos to help pack the correct attire. Can you help with examples?
Also my husband and I would be interested in your 2024 group cruise. Thanks, Allison and Gordon.

  3. I believe that the ports charge the ships for dockage and other landing costs, which are refunded to the cruise line if the port is missed. These fees are part of the cruise fare, and in all fairness, must be refunded to the passengers.

  4. Princess is doing another marketing campaign. Dining 360 is being promoted and if you book a suite you are eligible for 360. I just got off the Enchanted Princess and I was blessed to be invited to this as an Elite member. It is the most fenominal food experience If you are fortunate enough to get an invite DONโ€™T MISS IT

  5. Cruise lines at a minimum should refund port taxes when a port is missed. I was on Eurodam sailing the Panama canal and we missed a port in Mexico and Holland gave everyone $150 in obc.

  6. I was in Alaska in a jewelry store that accepts Princess Medallion as payment. They have to pay a commission to Princess and told me that if I used this service I would be paying the commission as it would be added on to my price. So beware if you are thinking of using it.

  7. Appreciate the info about Amber Cove. It will be our first time there. Was not sure what to do, was going to book a tour but seems best if we just stay in side the confines..lol๐Ÿ˜Š

  8. I didnโ€™t realize you were thinking about the British Isles next year. We have been booked for months on the exact cruise on June 20. I wish we could join you. ๐Ÿ˜ข

  9. Also, on a ship, the Captain rulesโ€ฆ and missing a port to provide assistance is part of the Rule of the Sea and you cannot expect to receive compensation because you agreed to be on that ship at that time. However, I do think if the Captain chooses to travel in rough weather which causes injury or severe illness, I think the company should give those passengers some compensation – perhaps 10%W off their next trip.

  10. Princess attempted to roll out Medallion Pay in Alaska in 2022. They got quickly shut down by local businesses. As I recall they were asking for 18% commission on all transactions. There were other fees and conditions that made no sense for shoreside businesses as well. Plus they will be able to know exactly what you buy, at what prices. Businesses were concerned with Princess using this information to stock their onboard shops.

  11. Used cooking oil can be used as fuel but NEVER put it in the tank of a regular gasoline-powered car! You need to get a diesel car and research how to process the oil, etc.

I've known people who did it… including a friend who drove a stick-shift car even though it meant using a gear stick on his right side where he didn't have a hand, because he couldn't get a diesel with automatic transmission. He had an extension on the stick so he could reach it with his left (and only) hand.

  12. Compensation for missing one port is nice but not in any way necessary . When almost all of the ports are missed or shortened , that's a different story .

  13. I was on the Sapphire Princess when we missed the Glacier Bay and I asked the customer service about that. The answer was "No". Cruise passengers are charged about $8 for the Glacier Bay, it's not the big deal, but they refused to refund it while other companies do. It changed my opinion about cruising with Princess.
    I googled it:
Theย Glacier Bay National Parkย permit fee for each cruise passenger has gone up from $5 to $8.28 for the next decade.

  14. You mentioned that the cruise ship does not have to compensate for missed ports. I heard on another you tube that if a port is missed they owe people the tax back or port fees for that port and many people don't ask for this , so they end up with that revenue. Could you discuss this on one of your shows. It seems lately more ports are being missed so it could become quite an issue if a couple of ports are missed. thx

  15. Allison, on our recent Alaska cruise on the Eurodam, one evening my niece Charla and I dined at the Pinnacle Grill, which is usually a highlight of my dining experience. This was not such a time: the filet mignon I ordered was quite chewy if not tough, and the side of asparagus spears was pathetic; very skinny and also tough. The mushrooms I ordered were quite delicious, however. Overall a disappointing dinner at the Pinnacle Grill!
