One thing Merseyrail do have are their day savers for travel outwith 0630-0930, which for this journey (wholly in area C) would have been £4.55, which staff usually sell when asking for returns without railcards. Or for 5p more a saveaway that allows for bus and non-Merseyrail journeys too. (Saveaway usually the best ticket for journeys in Merseyside after 0930, just non-locals aren't aware and end up paying more than they need too! Also, these have an additional £1 charge for a smartcard at Mrail stations, but not elsewhere so you could get it from a northern ticket machine or Lime St Hl without this fee!) I think since April these have also been about half of services on the Ormskirk line. Great to see a video from Merseyside (and in such glorious weather!)
Fascinating video. I didn't know that Merseyside had such an extensive rail network. Thank you, from Australia.
No toilets. Poor cleaners after Grand National Day….
Come to Melbourne Australia where none of our metro trains have toilets. Even though our longest metro route the Frankston to Werribee service is over 90mins end to end. Only the country trains have toilets.
The new Merseyrail Class 777 are so quiet compare to the Class 507 and Class 508 that is to be replaced by the Class 777. And Headbolt Lane due to be completed before the end of this year. The Class 777 are becoming more popular on Merseyrail.
Why would you get a train from limestreet to central? Just walk it’s much faster it’s literally round the corner lol
It has 6 dedicated spaces for bikes, not 4.
Being Southport borne and bread and living there near the first 30 years of my life, I can just about remember the PEP’s being introduced. I look forward to these new trains being rolled out onto the Southport branch with my regular visits to see family and friends. And Kirkby is spoken Kirby, as not the Scottish church but Liverpool accent 😂
They are out of service as they have found that they are faulty ,, don't forget that it will be at least 2026 before chester line get them .
As for toilets, these are located at stations ,bus between Liverpool to Preston are 3.5 hrs long and no toilet on board buses ..
Great trip.
Dylan why not come. Up to this part of the world and give us your opinion on the Glasgow area suburban electric services. Good videos.
I share your views on new football grounds. Non-league football clubs have built has some god awful flat-packed grounds in the last 20 years, but there are some absolute gems, though.
Great video as always Dylan! As a local we don't pronounce the second k in Kirkby.
I kept seeing fat tattooed bird in a loud frock. 🙂
How did Leeds do
Always see these trains in front of the stadler factory in St. Margrethen, Switzerland on my daily commute, good to finally know where they are going
I shall definitely the miss the 507/508. Inonic motor sounds. Very reliable trains. Seats weren't ever amazing.
The new 777s still struggling with technical issues that definitely will get sorted out soon. Not a fan of the seats.
Will be interesting to see when and if there battery power will get utilised on places further afield.
Eli that is a gorgeous dress. So light and summery looking, as I type this in a wintery Australia, and a delightful bright shade of blue. Dylan I find it amusing that you feel toilets should be normal on such short routes. When I lived in Sydney I regularly travelled on routes of longer than an hour, one from the outskirts of the city was 1 hour 6 min, or 55 min if express, and used the standard rail sets of the fleet, which never had toilets. Our intercity services do have toilets though, at least, but they can be 2 or 3 hours in travel time, such as Sydney Central to Newcastle or Sydney Central to Lithgow, for example. Edit: I should note that I do agree even a commuter service of 1 hour should have toilets, they are unusual in my experience.
I saw more fat women than new trains.
No toilets is unacceptable for some travellers! 1960's Underground trains had comfortable seating, these look like ironing boards. No custom from me. If you want people to leave their cars at home then you need to provide an equivalent level of comfort!
Ironing boards, not seats
Yet to travel in one – great overview. From an accessibility perspective, Stadler level boarding is excellent and agree all new units should have level boarding (and a real missed opportunity with the Hitachi inter city fleet). Good to see clear signage on floor to highlight bike space to reduce conflict with wheelchair spaces. Lack of a single toilet is a very poor decision – even suburban rail travel isn’t cheap and no toilet can create anxieties for many disabled passengers as well as everyone else. Overall looks a good train with some great accessibility features!
I love these trains, everything a short distance commuter train should be and without resorting to god awful longitude seating. Can't help but think something like this is what the Tyne and Wear Metro should have gone with.
The way he says kirkby triggers me so much you say it like the character from mario
Isn't Kirby and not "Kirkby"?
Very nice terminal
