If going to a country in Europe for 2 weeks, Hotels or Airbnb? What say you?
Norway usually is on the more expensive side, but if you want to visit Norway now would be the time since the Norwegian kroner is unusually weaker against almost all other currencies
So surprisingly, NYC can be cheap depending on what you want to do. There have been many times I've spent the day and spent less than $30 – not including my train ticket.
On the cheap side I'd say Poland. I went to Gdansk last year, and while I didn't notice a huge difference in price for food, in terms of transport, activities and accommodation it was super cheap. I Ubered everywhere because it was quicker and cheaper than figuring out multiple trains and buses. A 40 min Uber was like a fiver which is madness!
Expensive, you mentioned it but I'll mention it again – Norway. Norway was the first place I travelled to abroad in 2017, and I've been back another two times since. It's 100% worth it, and it's totally easy to not spend the earth. The transport (in Oslo) is exceptional, there are loads of free museums, parks and attractions, and as long as you're not going into a restaurant in the middle of town, you can get by not spending a huge amount. I just grabbed a few bits from the shop, took a pack up out every day and had a meal at home in the airbnb each night.
I feel Madrid was an expensive. Also just got back from Puerto Plata in the Dominican and it was insanely. In February I was in South Caicos and I agree everything is insane expensive in Turks and Caicos.
Lisbon/Madrid and Valencia were excellent bang for the buck, not necessarily cheap, but well worth it in my opinion.
In Madrid I stayed in a 4 star hotel, in an amazing suite with not one, but two terraces for the price of a mediocre regular Hilton.
Going to Paris again in September , but didn’t really know where to go for great local restaurants . Any recommendations.
Can’t wait to head to Portugal, England and Switzerland next summer. Your videos have been INVALUABLE! How do you recommend flying from country to country? Use airlines like Value Jet or using the large airlines we are familiar with. Cheers. If you get back to Winston Salem, NC you have a place to stay for you and your family!
I’m fairly new to traveling so what kind of countries need this extra security you mentioned and how do you plan for it?
South Africa (Pretoria) a few years ago anyway… Food and drink was really good value, even with the NZ dollar.
Just got back from a 10 day vacation in Washington DC and oh my goodness it is pretty expensive there. The flight to Reagan, the stay at Hotel Washington, and the flight back was about $5,900 but I’m sure we spent an extra $2,000 on eating, Ubering, souvenirs, and doing what we wanted to do. Pretty much a $8,000 vacation but it was a vacation of the lifetime!
What amount for flights? What are more affordable places to fly too.
I'm not sure whats considered an affordable flight. I've never flown international.
For example, I've been looking into flying to Dublin Ireland from Sacramento, and through thier airline it seemed to be the best price. About $1000 per person round trip.
For those who are not Americans, all inclusive in Cuba are quite cheap (btw, shame on the US government for the embargo on Cuba). Mexico, Dominican Republic and Columbia are Caribbean destination that are still relatively affordable.
Not all big cities are expensive. For example, Mexico city is quite cheap. There are a lot to see, and It is much cheaper than Cancun for example. Not sure now, but Quito used to be super cheap too.
Hey Wolfer World, new to your channel. Thanks for the videos. My wife and I are going to Boston in the fall. Any tips to save money? We want to rely on public transport to get us around. Thanks.
I've lived in China for close to 8 years and I have to say that yes, if you have a local guide or a friend who speaks Chinese, it can still be an affordable country to visit. But because of the language barrier, as a western tourist travelling alone, everything will be expensive. Hotels in the major cities such as Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen, Guangzhou are just as expensive as in the west if not more so. Some less expensive, non western brand hotels will not accept foreign guests. One thing about China and this applies to Thailand as well, anything that involves manual labor or services is very affordable as compared to the U.S. Massages, haircuts, taxi or Didi (Chinese version of Uber) are crazy inexpensive.
Cheap: Baltics, Poland, Taiwan
Expensive: Switzerland really put a dent into my bank account and I haven't even gone yet (just booked hotel…)
Thailand is amazing and very affordable. I am paying under 500 dollars for four weeks at a 3 star hotel in Phuket. And the round trip, non stop flight from Shenzhen China (where I currently live) is around 400 bucks. Once you get to Thailand most things are very inexpensive provided you don't start having all your meals at the top western restaurants. If you're planning to visit S.E Asia, Thailand is the place. Its infrastructure is well developed and the people are very friendly. In contrast, Sri Lanka, which is also very beautiful place to visit, but there a month stay would've cost me twice as much as TH. And when I was there back in 2016 it was hard to find a decent hotel, even in the capital city because it's a really underdeveloped country.
Ireland is one of the most EXPENSIVE places to visit. He is completely wrong. Any money you save in airfare will be quickly gone in extra hotel fees. Everything in Ireland is FAR more expensive. 👎👎👎👎
Just returned from Budapest. It was a great city to visit and not very expensive.
Poland would be my most cheap country to go… i ate and slept like Royalty.. i only spent $200 total for my hotels and eating and sites for 9 days. cheap countries also Thailand and Philippines! most expensive: Iceland, Switzerland
I agree. Norway is very beautiful, but also extremely expensive. I'm from the Netherlands, not the cheapest country. But in Norway literally everything was more expensive. Restaurants (€8 for a non-alcoholic drink, double that for a beer 😮), museums, trains, groceries, fuel, accommodation (with airbnb being significantly more affordable) just everything. Only flights going there are affordable 😅
food is cheap in poland compared to the rest of Europe 👍
Prague was not expensive and probably the most beautiful city in Europe. Budapest was cheap and the most interesting City that I have been to. North 1/2 of Croatia was very affordable, south part not so much..
appears to me that you only know Oslo, maybe you visited Bergen or top attractions during the high seasons. I tell you no one wants to go to Bergen in the rainiest month, Svolvær in the coldest month, Trondheim in the darkest month, then they have low prices, early bird bookings. a lot of hotels are unmanned pin code entry these days because labour is pricey. The Netherlands on the other hand is expensive all year round, they do not have budget supermarkets either, where as Norway has Rema1000 and KIWI, you can also pay nearly cost free with debit cards in Norway.
I'm from Norway (yes, it is expensive here). Czech and Poland is really cheap. New York is crazy expensive -.-
I have to disagree with Japan being expensive. Sure, it's not a cheap destination, but any country where you can get perfectly decent hotels for about €60-80 or a meal for €10 is not expensive in my book. Sure, some things are more expensive, like long distance travel (hence the popularity of the Japan Rail Pass), but overall I'd say it's a LOT cheaper than western Europe or the US.
My tip for a budget destination in Asia would go to Taiwan though. Maybe not as cheap as SE Asia, but the standard of living and as a result the comfort you'll be experiencing as a tourist is so much higher.
We just returned from Cayman Islands…very expensive! We booked flights and accommodations with points, so all we needed to spend money on was car rental, food, and excursions/admissions. We still ended up spending over $2,500 for a family of 5, which includes buying groceries and cooking in our own condo kitchen.
Sir i looking to go to South Africa but not sure best time of year to go🤷🏾♀️😢 help
iceland is also very expensive
Poland is a excellent place to travel and affordable and the food and beers are great 😂!
two places the I recommend to you Mark are Doha, Qatar and Baku, Azerbaijan. Doha is super easy to get too with Qatar airways flights from almost every major US city and hotels are super cheap due to the amount of them that were needed for the World Cup, and theres a ton of stuff to do anytime of the day due to the desert heat while being the safest city in the world . Went to Baku during the Grand Prix weekend and was shocked how cheap everything was but definitely look out for some taxi and other scams. A little tough to get there but going through turkey or the middle east is your best route. The city center was super safe could be do to the heighten security due to the big event. Ton a stuff to do and a culture that is super interested due to the clashing of cultures in the area. Though both countries have there issue with human rights issues were super impressed with both places and would definitely want to go back soon!
Malaysia is very affordable, safe, not overtouristy, super tasty cheap food, mix of cultures, great nature.
Favorite Cheap Destination: Guanajuato, Mexico. It is a beautiful destination with great food and people
Too dang expensive: Hotels and Accommodations proximal to US National Parks can be very expensive for what you get. I would encourage camping out if the weather is decent.
This was such a jewel of a stream! I would like to hear more of this – learning the value & expense of traveling and what is really worth it. The older I get, the time, money and physical drain of travel needs to be taken into account. Few trips and more bang!
I would go to the extent that traveling the US is very misunderstood. I’ve been to other countries, some for personal and some for the military, the US is very budget friendly and more interesting than out of country. Much diverse landscape and, more friendly people. Most expensive country was Switzerland by far, I underestimated the cost of everything there lol, cheapest is Mexico when I was visiting family. But you can’t go wrong from hiking out west such as California or Washington state, or going to beaches such as Hawaii, NC or Florida if that fancy’s you
Thank you. I like expensive and cheap places. I like tropical beaches and those locations can be very cheap and very expensive. Bora Bora is is expensive but Philippines and Thailand are cheap. I would like to see Ireland Portugal and Mexico. I thought Ireland would be expensive. I want to go to Bali some of the cheap places they suggest or unappealing like Bangladesh. Bangladesh is not a safe country. They also suggest Cuba on the cheap travel videos which Americans aren't even allowed to go to. They suggest a lot of countries that are very dangerous. I want to go to Japan. I feel like I'm being pressured to go to Scandinavia. I don't really want to go there but I feel pressured to go there if that makes any sense. Same with most York northern European countries. I feel pressured to go there. Just because they have a high quality of life and they're high on the UN list. And I don't want to go there because the people are cold and reserved and it's expensive. And it doesn't interest me. I'm currently in in Hawaii or expensive but I really want to go there. I feel pressured early northern Europe. I know that doesn't make sense.
Im Irish and i can tell you Ireland is crazy expensive. Everyone who is Irish goes abroad really if you want to get bang for your buck. Its a shame but i would not pay €400 for 3 nights in a medium rating hotel here when i can go to Spain, Portugal or Greece and get a weeks accommodation for the same price. Planned well in advace of course.
Japan is expensive to fly to (pro tip, fly out of LAX for cheapest rate in the USA). Hotels can be expensive but Airbnb’s are significantly cheaper! The food prices are extremely cheap as well. A budget for $20 a day is VERY doable plus you’ll eat very well too!
cheap South Africa ( Cape Town is great ) $2 coffee $2 beer $2 glass of wine , expensive Usa $6 for coffee $10 for a beer $15 glass of wine
a cheap and lovely place to visit in the u.s. i would recommend the shenandoah valley area of virginia if you like outdoorsy trips. one area i liked was clifton forge its in a part of virginia near west v.a. called the allegheny highlands.
